LOUIS VUITTON X FRANK GEHRY

Louis Vuitton continues its collaboration with Frank Gehry.

At Art Basel Miami Beach, the renowned architect of the Guggenheim Bilbao, the Louis Vuitton Foundation and the Walt Disney Concert Hall presented his latest collaboration with Louis Vuitton: an exclusive series of bags inspired by his architectural creations, his studio, his favorite materials and his iconic animals. This is where he fully reveals himself as an eccentric, neo-pop artist, deploying his lively, captivating spirit.

For the second year running, the brand is taking part in the event, which takes place from December 8 to 10 in Miami, Florida, of which it is the "global partner". Present at this 21st edition, the brand will have a stand specially dedicated to its collaboration with Frank Gehry, the architect having also left his mark on its showcases in 2014, as well as with a model of the Twisted Box bag.

The Twisted Box, originally designed by Frank Gehry for the Celebrating Monogram collection, perfectly illustrates the absolute artistic freedom the architect enjoys thanks to Louis Vuitton. He remains the only designer to have had the privilege of reinterpreting the house's emblematic monogram, as evidenced by some of the sketches exhibited at Art Basel Miami Beach. This revisited monogram stretches across this stunning box, creating the illusion that it's floating in mid-air, as free as its genial designer.

At the age of 94, the man renowned for his impressive deconstructed edifices with an organic aesthetic style demonstrates a creative energy more vivid than ever.

The limited series includes a dozen creations, some directly inspired by his most iconic projects, such as his steel sculpture "Bear with us" reinterpreted as a clutch bag. The emphasis is on craftsmanship and materials, as evidenced by the Capucines MM Concrete Pockets model. Its cowhide leather outer surface features an innovative relief silk-screen print, incorporating concrete to faithfully reproduce the various textures of the architect's constructions.

For some time now, Louis Vuitton has maintained a close relationship with the art world, collaborating with leading names in contemporary art and design, including Sol LeWitt, James Rosenquist, César and Olafur Eliasson. Defining itself as "a creative cultural enterprise", according to the vision of LVMH boss Bernard Arnault, the brand has regularly called on many other artists over the years, such as Richard Prince, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama and Stephen Sprouse, to reinvent its famous monogrammed bags.
