DO HO SUH : WALK THE HOUSE AT TATE MODERN
From May 1 to October 19, 2025, Tate Modern presents The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House, the first major London retrospective of the South Korean artist in over two decades. Spanning thirty years of creation, the exhibition features monumental installations, sculptures, videos, drawings, and archival materials that explore themes of space, memory, migration, and identity.
Highlights include Nest/s (2024), a labyrinth of colorful corridors made from transparent polyester and steel, inviting visitors to walk through semi-transparent replicas of the artist’s former homes, from Seoul to New York to London. The exhibition also features Rubbing/Loving: Seoul Home (2013–2022), a life-size structure in mulberry paper and graphite, recreating his childhood home, as well as a translucent model of his current London apartment, detailed with objects like handles, switches, and fuse boxes from his past dwellings.
Beyond the immersive aesthetic, the show questions our relationship to housing and permanence: how do places shape our identity, and what traces remain of our journeys? While some critics noted that large installations overshadow smaller works such as drawings and films, the evocative power of Suh’s major pieces resonates with visitors, awakening universal memories. Walk the House offers a poetic, fragile, and deeply human experience.
