COCO CHANEL ON THE RIVIERA WITH THE EXHIBITION LES ANNÉES FOLLES AT THE NMNM
The exhibition Les Années Folles de Coco Chanel, presented at the Villa Paloma of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM), highlights the vibrant creativity of Gabrielle Chanel during the 1920s on the French Riviera. Curated by Célia Bernasconi with scenography by Christophe Martin and contemporary works by Chloé Royer, it offers a unique dialogue between fashion and the arts. More than 200 objects are on display, including 30 haute couture pieces, accessories, and 40 works by Picasso, Van Dongen, Laurencin, Gontcharova, Delaunay, and Cocteau, as well as photographs by Man Ray and Steichen.
The exhibition is structured around three main themes: outdoor lifestyle with nautical-inspired ready-to-wear, the influence of the Ballets Russes and Slavic cultures, and the birth of the “Riviera style,” framed by Chanel’s Monte-Carlo boutique, the launch of the iconic No.5 perfume in Grasse, and the villa La Pausa. Together, these elements illustrate how Chanel shaped a new, free, elegant, and modern femininity.
Running until October 5, 2025, the exhibition also offers guided tours, cultural programs, and the chance to discover the works in the dramatic setting overlooking the Mediterranean. Entry fees range from 4€ (reduced) to 6€, with free admission on Sundays.
