CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE BIENNIAL 2025 : A WHIRLWIND OF CHANGE
The 10th edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial runs from September 19, 2025, to February 28, 2026, under the theme “SHIFT : Architecture in Times of Radical Change.”
The free, citywide event unfolds across several major venues including the Chicago Cultural Center, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, and the Stony Island Arts Bank.
More than 100 contemporary architecture projects from around 30 countries are featured this year.
The exhibition explores collective housing, the impact of migration on urban form, and the use of innovative materials.
Highlights include the video installation “Inhabit, Outhabit,” which examines housing models across the world, and “TRACES,” a monumental dry-brick structure recalling the 1893 World’s Fair.
While the Biennial continues to position itself as an open and international platform, some critics note a lack of political engagement in the face of pressing social and environmental issues.
Le Monde described the event as “politically timid,” despite its context of proclaimed radical change.
