A bag that's not short of air!
Coperni, the French brand that never ceases to surprise us, has decided to make something even more innovative! At the latest Autumn-Winter 2024 Fashion Week, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer surprised the public with their Air Swipe Bag, a bag made of 99% air...
We know the brand for their collection of iconic bags: Swipe, as we can see below, this bag with its oval design is one of the brand's nuggets. However, the Air Swipe Bag is quite different, and we may wonder where its bluish-white reflections come from? Or how is it that a bag can be composed mainly of air?
Well, according to our innovation-driven designers, this bag is made from silica aerogel. Silica aerogel is a material that is able to trap air thanks to its nanoporosity, and possesses thermal insulation performance that remains stable over time. Weighing just 33 grams, the bag can carry up to 4,000 times its own weight, and is highly resistant to heat.
As for the remaining 1%... Foam glass comes into play to complete the composition of the bag. After all, the necessary material had to be found to fit the shape of the Swipe bag. To bring this work of art to life, Professor Ioannis Michaloudis' expertise in the fields of art and science was called upon during over two months of research. According to our professor, this bag would last "longer than life", the bag's solidity deceiving the public's eyes with its soft and tender appearance.
When we focus on the brand's name, we quickly make the connection between Coperni and Nicolas Copernicus, the famous Polish astronomer, bearing in mind that both our creators have a keen interest in astronomy. What's more, the raw material of this marvel: aerogel, enables NASA to capture stardust. Fascinating, isn't it?
This futuristic look accentuates the link between technology and design, and this bag is proof that fashion is an art form that can inspire the imagination with new materials. The use of aerogel brings this innovative and progressive effect, allowing trends to evolve and develop over time. After the Swipe in blown glass or the dress created live on Bella Hadid at Spring/Summer Fashion Week 2023, the brand's objective remains the same: to impress while being stylish.
