WESTWOOD AND KAWAKUBO FASHION REVOLUTION IN MELBOURNE

The exhibition Westwood Kawakubo takes place at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and brings together for the first time two major creators in the history of fashion.
The exhibition runs from December 2025 to April 2026 and brings together more than one hundred forty pieces from the museum’s collections and international loans.
Visitors discover an unprecedented face to face encounter between the subversive energy of Vivienne Westwood and the conceptual approach of Rei Kawakubo.

The scenography proposes a journey that explores themes such as provocation transformation the relationship with the body and the power of clothing in contemporary culture.
Each room creates a visual dialogue between the two creators by bringing together their intuitions their materials and their gestures of rupture.
The whole forms a dense experience that puts into perspective two very different visions driven by the same desire to question established codes.

This exhibition affirms the place of fashion as a fully fledged artistic field.
It highlights the lasting impact of Westwood and Kawakubo on contemporary creation and shows how their universes continue to influence new generations.
Melbourne thus hosts a major event where fashion becomes reflection confrontation and continuous reinvention.
