An Original Kimono Store in Kyoto

A traditional townhouse  called, Kyoto Machiya in Kyoto, Japan, was renovated and transformed into a kimono store and photo studio by architects from 07BEACH. The architects began by breaking down the exterior wall and replacing it with a glass wall so that customers could see inside the store from the street, and so the store could also have more natural light. The original front door was knocked down and replaced with a large entrance that gives depth to the boutique and makes it look larger. This new entrance is also composed of a stone path that reminds us of Japanese tradition.

The beige tiles convey a feeling of softness and create a harmony with the atmosphere of the boutique. Kimonos are arranged throughout the store, some are scattered on the walls and others are hung from the ceiling. You can also find them on kimono racks.

There is also a garden area on the other side, at the back of the store. This area is usually used for photography when companies rent out the room. A lounge area has been added to bring a cocooning touch to the place. It is used by clients as well as professionals for photo shoots. Companies can rent out the place empty or with the kimonos on display. The space is intended to be used both as a photo studio and as a showroom for Kimonos.
