NEO TAILORING : THE FUTURE OF OFFICE WEAR

Following the end of lockdowns, first instinct was to stay in our cosy sweatpants until the end of times to head back to the office. After a year of working from home in your PJs and home slippers, who the hell wants to go back to uncomfortable suit and ties and high heels, right ? Unfortunately, that wasn’t an option for long since our world gradually came back to normal as did our office clothing habits… with a twist ! That’s what we call Neo Tailoring !

So how and why does it work ?

Rather than rocking your classic (one might even say basic)  fitted tailored suit, Neo Tailoring gives you space to hold on to the comfort gained during lockdowns by replacing perfectly tailored trousers with cropped cuts, sweatpants shaped trousers or even shorts ! As the streetwear imprinted on this trend, we find looser fits and accessorising in accordance.

As we mentioned, the original wardrobe remains elevated by reworked collars either raised or erased all together, button displaced as they’re pulled closer to the back of the garment basically wrapping it around your chest like a robe or with pocket details in unconventional places. The other major element has been introducing cut outs in the designs. While this would be added to more casual and celebratory version of tailoring, some have managed to incorporate them in a way that still feels appropriate for the office, and if not on Wall Street, at least in creative professional spaces.

Two final elements tie  the novelty of Neo Tailoring all together : colours and fabrics ! Gone are the days pf strictly black, navy blue wool,  gabardine suits ! Use velvet or nylon ! Use orange or pink or neon green ! Making tailoring fun again is one of the greatest reactions to the dark days we have been going through so go ahead and brighten your office hours with creative yet sharp dressing.
