FASHION OF THE 90S BETWEEN MEMORY AND DESIRE

The exhibition Obsessed: Fashion and Nostalgia in the ‘90s, presented at the ASU FIDM Museum in Los Angeles, explores the lasting fascination with 1990s fashion.
Through a selection of emblematic pieces, it highlights a decade defined by strong contrasts, between radical minimalism and visual excess.
The project reflects on how this period continues to shape contemporary imaginaries.

The exhibition brings together creations from major designers alongside silhouettes drawn from popular culture, revealing the range of aesthetics that defined the era.
Garments are presented in dialogue with images, campaigns, and cultural references that contributed to building a collective memory.
The exhibition emphasizes how certain pieces have become objects of renewed desire through fashion, media, and archival rediscovery.

The scenography offers a sensitive reading of nostalgia, showing how the past is constantly reinterpreted.
It highlights an active relationship with archives, where the codes of the 1990s circulate, evolve, and reappear in the present.
The exhibition presents fashion as a space of projection, where memory becomes a driver of creation.
