The Sailor Shirt is Back in Fashion This Winter 2021!

The sailor shirt made its debut in the 18th century as a blouse without stripes but with a large boat neck, the garment was used by sailors to avoid accidents with the ropes on a ship. The sailor shirt then evolved as a white and blue striped knit and was used as underwear by the crew on ships. It was in 1858 that this style of shirt took a completely different path and became the official uniform of French sailors. The uniform had to have 21 white stripes or 21 blue stripes and the sleeves had to have 15 white stripes and 14 or 15 blue stripes.

It was in 1916 that Coco Chanel launched the fashion of the sailor shirt with a sailor collar, but without the stripes. It is only in 1966 that the striped sailor shirt arrives in the fashion world thanks to Yves Saint Laurent who released a collection called "Sailor". The sailor shirt was then found in the Jean-Paul Gaultier’sfashion show in the 80s and from then, it became a piece accessible and worn by everyone, by men and women.

This shirt is a fashion garment that comes and goes, but for winter 2021, it is back! The striped print shirt is back in fashion by settling on knit sweaters. This famous piece can be associated with everything, from skirts to pants and can be worn for all occasions! Wear it with jeans and sneakers for a casual look. With a black leather miniskirt, tights and heels if you want to go to a party.
