VALENTINO’S ULTRA YOUNG COUTURE

Haute Couture in the fashion industry is a spectacular demonstration of creativity and craftsmanship there’s no denying it, but it has been given somewhat of an over-superficial aspect over the years as it was more about beauty than anything else. That was until Valentino’s latest instalment which introduces us to a more contemporary, vibrant and youthful form of Couture.

Because you can’t build a future without learning from the past, Pierpaolo Piccioli had the models walk down the Spanish Steps just a stone’s throw away from where the very first Valentino store opened its doors. This full circle moment came with a breath of fresh air as Piccioli presented his vision of what luxury looks like nowadays.
While other maisons take the route of tradition, Valentino has fully bet on the youth to carry the brand’s heritage. In that sense, a form of street inspired and party-like couture sees the light of day – or rather sparkles under the moonlight in that particular case – instantly inspiring praise before the looks can even reach the end of the runway ! But what is it that makes it so brilliant and, in a sense, innovative ?

Obvious impressive and beautiful craftsmanship aside, it was Piccioli’s diverse casting in age, gender, sizes and race that sealed the deal. With Couture constantly associated with slim 20 somethings primarily white women, watching men, women and non-binary models of all races and age walk a Couture catwalk was a true marvel !
The message of this collection is quite clear : we must breathe new life into Couture! As customers are looking for joy and a real representation of our diverse world, style is no longer enough, something Pierpaolo Piccioli understand better than anyone.

As mentioned, Piccioli believes in learning from the past, therefore the looks were updated version of vintage Valentino and we are not using the word updated lightly here ! Valentino’s romance was paired with trendy nightlife all put in technicolour,feathers, ruffles, fishnets and a lot of see through detailing that’ll make you want to hit the club dressed in couture from head to toe !
