The I Do Art Gallery in Wuhan
The I Do art gallery in Wuhan, China, combines spatial and sculptural elements to create a highly expressive, welcoming and inspiring experience. Within the space, a smooth, flowing, cave-like space is carved into the interior, enveloping visitors in a continuously fluid environment. The details of the exhibits embedded in the walls and freestanding thoughout the space, suggest massive geological formations emerging from the erosive spatial constructs of the interior. Overall, the geometries present a diverse yet synergistic unity of form.
The two gigantic 9-meter long steel sculptures represent an elephant in its actual size and features the iconic figure of Yue Min Jun rising from the second floor of the space to the second. Symbolically, the elephant and the figure represent wisdom, strength and unity as a projection of the relationships that emerge from the people who enter the store. In its execution, the sculpture innovates an entirely new methodology for creating space and form. Using large-scale wax 3D printing and lost-wax casting, the process creates a sparse but highly structured network inspired by both cellular biology and the atomic structures of diamonds. The interior space of the cave is light and airy, with flowing ribbons of robotic formwork continuously wrapping the space and enveloping visitors in a warm embrace.
The design of the I Do gallery is neither art, nor architecture, nor technology, but an elegant synthesis of the most valued elements of all three, creating a new hybridization of unique and inspiring immersive experiences. The façade, interior, and details of the spaces present themselves to the world as a new potential for understanding not the segregation of thoughts and ideas, but rather how cross-ideation and multidisciplinary collaboration between each other can offer a way forward, celebrating our differences and sharing our common goals of love, happiness, and inspiration.
