DIRTY DIGITAL FASHION
As our social order evolves and expands, do does the creative landscape ! Where elegance and sobriety once were dominant in the fashion industry, we can observe a rise in the mixing of dark counter culture and digital advances. A great ambassador of this has been model/influencer/actress/ex-dominatrix Julia Fox. Love her or hate her, she perfectly portrays how one of the biggest upcoming macro trends in fashion is what we are referring to as Dirty Digital Fashion.
As one of the featured designers, Sia Arnika, would say, the mission here is to “find the sublime in the quirky and weird”, only different is those words take a whole different meaning than the one you think of when it come to the trend. With the rise of Web3, the possibilities are endless in terms of creativity and the younger generation of designers is well aware of that ! Moreover, our time definitely is one of sexual freedom in a sense that showing as much skin as possible has almost become a contest, both on runways and street style but it isn’t for attention, it’s all in favour of self love and empowerment.
Out of this epiphany we see styles that aren’t just sexy or provocative, they’re otherworldly and – not to be vulgar – straight up badass ! Designers like Weiræn, Sia Arnika and Di Petsa offer us garments and silhouettes that experiment with shaping & textures, giving birth to distorted, watery figures. This is achieved either through fabric manipulation – super advanced in most cases – innovative fabric & the elevated digital styling.
This perfect combination goes hand in hand with the forward thinking type of fashion that we would be experimenting less than a decade from now ! We are talking about a future where the more hedonistic fashion designers would rule, fabric would basically become obsolete and technology would represent an enormous chunk of the creative process.
Like we said, “quirky and weird” take a whole new meaning here, it now means inventive and full of promise. Somehow along the way, experimental artists and designers became the industry’s best shot at newness and actual evolution, rather it’s artistic or humanist.
