The famous Dover Street Market concept store has just opened a new space in Los Angeles, at the heart of the Art District. After London, Tokyo, New York, Singapore and Beijing, the brand is setting up shop in the City of Angels and revealing a huge space where the current most desirable brands rub shoulders.
The temple of good taste
Created by Rei Kawakubo, the founder of both Dover Street Market and the Comme des Garçons brand, the space stretches over more than 1,000 square metres on the ground floor. In a very industrial style, the store sports concrete floors, white brick walls, exposed beams and imposing neon lights.
In this unique venue, inspired by the atmosphere of Los Angeles according to Rei Kawakubo, the most fashionable luxury and streetwear brands of the moment are displayed, including Jaquemus, Off White, Maison Margiela, Prada, Simone Rocha, Gucci, Chanel and Nike and Palace.
“Beautiful Chaos”
The new Dover Street Market has been designed like a department store where each brand expresses its unique world in a single physical setting. This creative diversity was what interested Rei Kawakubo: “I wanted to create a store where various creators from various fields encounter each other in an atmosphere of beautiful chaos; the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision”.
In order to provide a unique total experience, the store also offers the opportunity to discover works by six artists – Warren Muller, Lyn Dillin, Bjorn Dahlem, Yuichi Higashionna, Gary Card and Stuart Haygarth – along with video projections created by Rose Kennedy Schlossberg.
