HARMAY'S LATEST FACTORY-INSPIRED SHOP
The multi-brand cosmetics company Harmay is used to thinking big about retail and already has a dozen shops across China, each one more offbeat and atypical than the last. The latest shop was opened at the end of 2021 in Park180 Cathay Pacific Plaza in the city of Chongqing.
Harmay commissioned Aim Architecture to work on this new location in the heart of the city, in a two-entrance shopping center connecting both the street and the park. The interior space is underground, with minimal contact with the outside world.
Inspired by the city of Chongqing, this place refers to the factories that were located in the air raid shelters during the Second World War, of which there were many in this city. This vaulted, geometric and monochrome red space contrasts with the urban environment. The red hue extends throughout the walls, floor and ceiling for total immersion. All along the tunnel is a giant conveyor belt where boxes with products sold in bulk are displayed. At the back of the shop, lighted shelves are arranged in parallel and in a row, like a chain. There are generators, a range of industrial appliances and even lamps, all with a factory feel.
We discover products such as Harmay perfumes but also many other brands such as Dermalogica, Baum, Rose et Marius, Botanist, Graine de Pastel, or even SG79 / STHLM.
This Hermay space succeeds in taking us to an underground world, the opposite of this city of skyscrapers, creating unique visual sensations.
