JACQUEMUS x NIKE : A COLLAB WORTH WAITING FOR
Simon Porte Jacquemus' designs regularly draw on the world of sport, from diving gear to hiking boots to swimwear, knowing that it made all the sense in the world that the brand’s next collection would be a collaboration with Nike. After three years of work, he will unveil his first collaboration with Nike at the end of June in Paris. It will include items that combine the Marseilles native's love of outdoor activities with Nike's expertise in designing some of the most advanced technical clothing in the world.
The two brands joining forces definitely come from a place of mutual respect and admiration as Nike had solicited Jacquemus’ presence on a shoot for the French football team’s new jersey back in 2018. As for the French designer, he is a an avid collector of Nike's ACG (All Conditions Gear) line. Those links made the inspirations and ideas for the collab very clear to Jacquemus : "The lacy miniskirts of the late 1990s, Lady Di's sporty looks and the tennis world."
The result is a feminine collection in neutral tones combines the ease and simplicity of Jacquemus with the technical expertise of Nike. For instance the backless dress (seen above) is equally appropriate for the gym as it is for the dance floor. "It's super light and super sensual at the same time," says Simon Porte Jacquemus of the centrepiece of his collection. "It was my first idea."
For Nike, it was important to bring that French look to sportswear. "We're always looking to work with people who can offer us something we don't have as a brand," says Jarrett Reynolds, vice president of NRG Apparel Design, the Nike agency that fosters the brand's most innovative partnerships. "Simon's power lies in the sensuality and emotion of his designs... He has a gift for making the mundane truly special."
