MARIO CUCCHETTI, milky innovation
Mario Cucchetti Tessuti was established in the 1950’s in one of the most important textile districts of Italy. The continuous improvement of their production processes, the search for innovation, their ecological commitment and their creativity have made them famous and a major player in luxury ready-to-wear.
In producing organic cotton, biological production systems are used that do not involve the use of pesticides, insecticides, chemical fertilizers, or GM seeds. Such a cultivation process is made possible by the introduction of predatory insects into the plantations (replacing chemical insecticides) and the manual removal of weeds along with the use of 100% natural fertilizers.
MARIO CUCCHETTI goes further by developing fabrics that are made with milk fiber, which is obtained through a process of extraction and purification of casein, the main milk protein.
Fabrics made with this protein preserve the properties of milk and are beneficial for the skin. They are antibacterial, stimulate the circulation of the blood, and have an excellent capacity for breathability and moisture absorption.
This process is not new, it was created in the 1930s by an Italian chemist Antonio Ferreti. The principle is to isolate the casein, add an acid to separate the casein molecules from the raw material. The result is a fully biodegradable raw material and as precious as silk.
