The founder, Melissa Artis, created the brand not so long ago, in 2016. A year later, in 2017, she partnered up with Philip who she met in school. Together, they grew the brand by redesigning the website as well as open the first Waekura store in 2018 in Paris! Since then, the brand continues to grow and can be found in several corner stores at TopShop in London or even at Le Bon Marché in Paris.

Waekura's ideology is simple, it is to offer jewelry that they themselves would like to wear as customers. Founder Melissa Artis says, "I created Waekura because I couldn't find quality jewelry to wear every day without having to put a price tag on it. Our mission is to modernize the world of jewelry by offering a premium experience at an affordable price." Their jewelry comes from two different sources; from Paris, where the drawings, welding, and plating stages are done, it is also in Paris where the brass pieces are sourced and then processed. Then, the models and drawings of the jewelry are sent to different French, Spanish or Chinese workshops so that they can create the molds.

The brand offers all types of jewelry like rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and piercings. They also offer jewelry that can be engraved, ideal to make a personalized gift to your loved ones. Simply choose your chain, your medallion and your font and write the text of your choice. Each piece of jewelry is plated in 3 micron gold on a brass base, which helps prevent the jewelry from rusting! You can easily put them under water as well as take your shower with them, as the pieces are water resistant and guaranteed for 1 year.
