Jam, The Beauty Salon Shared by Multiple Professionals
Jam, a beauty salon located in Osaka has developed a new concept: a beauty salon that is shared among freelancers. Since the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on jobs in Japan, the demand for shared salon spaces among freelancers is gradually increasing. A shared space allows freelancers to practice their profession together, in a public place without having the constraints of being an employee. This concept is reffered to as "jam", as it expresses the meaning of different people working side by side.
The advantage is that freelancers can stay in the space permanently and can work whenever and for however long as they want. The way it works is that a person rents a space or a part of the salon, this space becomes theirs and they can use it whenever they want, whether it is every day or just a few days a week. For example, they can work from 8am to 8pm as well as from 2pm to 5pm.
The design of the salon was created in three spaces: private, semi-private and open-space, each freelancer can choose his or her work space according to his or her preference. The shampoo stations with their large brown chairs are shared with the open space and with everyone. Throughout the salon, there are bright walls in different colors that separate the rooms, for example in purple, green and blue which also gives the space a modern look. The mirrors are all exposed lengthwise throughout the walls of the rooms, which makes the beauty salon look bigger.
