Benaud Textiles, a Company From Lyon, FR
In 1991, Didier Benaud created the eponymous company BENAUD Créations by taking up the model of the "Fabrique Lyonnaise", in the respect of a hundred-year-old tradition. The "Fabrique Lyonnaise" dates back to 1536, under the reign of François I, which was the beginning of the silk industry in Lyon. It was composed of small independent workshops located in the center of the city. The story comes to life in the heart of Lyon, which at the time had a monopoly on the importation of raw silk into France.
In collaboration with a regional weaver named Didier Benaudmet, who used specific fabrics to develop his first moire fabrics, moirage became the core business of the company. Moire is a handcrafted mechanical finishing process, which allows to obtain contrasting effects of shine and mattness by crushing certain parts of the fabric. Moire requires a series of precise and technical gestures and movements that will sublimate and illuminate a dyed fabric into a shimmering and sophisticated material.
The company today works with decorative textile companies and ready-to-wear brands and has diversified its offer, counter-gluing, flocking, embroidery and jacquards. Today, moire is dependent on weaving and can be obtained with different fabrics such as cotton and can be developed with different patterns.
