It all started in January 2017 when Dorian Stefano Tarantini, famous Italian DJ and former creative director of the legendary Plastic nightclub in Milan, decided to launch his own fashion brand, Milano 1992. One year later and after two fashion shows, he decided to re-direct and rename his label into M1992 with a debut show on January 2018 at Pitti Uomo in Milan.
A « Digital Degeneration of Luxury »
For Tarantini, M1992 is a «digital degeneration of luxury» as he likes to call his bottom-up project, where already known works or events are re-defined in order to give us something organically original. During an interview for Pitti Uomo the designer described M1992 as «a brand in which I concentrate and list my lucid dreams of the past as well as an exaltation of the future».
Tarantini decided to unveil his FW18 collection at the Pitti Uomo fashion show as he thought it would be the best background to showcase the transition from Malibu 1992 to M1992.
Inspired by the late 80’s American iconic films, the designer emphasised the shoulders with surgical cuts and lapels, while as an alternative to the women’s suit he proposed a cropped, drapped and hooded double-breasted jacket where buttons are replaced by zippers.
He also surprised us with an 80’s inspired capsule hand-made denim collection in collaboration with the Italian denim brand MELTIN’POT. Suits, gowns and cocktail dresses were part of a jeans-couture collection full of nostalgia.
A Creative Genious
Being an enthusiastic admirer of 90’s house music and a successful DJ, Tarantini managed to build a real community of young people around him that follow his creative evolution.
M1992 is the application of his creative genius in clothing and we can’t wait to see his future collections. This urban-classy luxury brand is here to stay !
