Know-how and sustainable development

And for good reason: the small firm based in Prato, Italy, has rapidly established itself as a leader in the production of new-generation recycled wool thanks to a circular economy model, KMO, specially designed by Manteco. A beneficial innovation that would not have been possible without the transgenerational know-how embodied in these superior-quality fabrics.

The products from the firm founded in 2009 are not only manufactured in an environmentally friendly way in Italy but also imbued with the skills of local artisans, working within a 10-km radius of the plant. The result? Total traceability of the fabrics. Manteco is able to check each production phase from the raw material to the finished fabric, through spinning and weaving.

It is therefore no surprise that Manteco is certified by bodies such as Textile Exchange with the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) and RWS certification and is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). In 2015, Manteco also incorporated hazardous chemical management into all production processes, in line with international protocols, with a structured, supervised framework implementing the ZDHC MRSL.

Unique textile products

Proving this strong commitment, the company offers a range of unique fabrics. We immediately think of BiBye, made from raw materials chosen in Australia and New Zealand, which is characterised by a soft and precious extra-virgin wool. Manteco is also now able to supply new-generation recycled wool via an innovative treatment that does not require the use of chemicals or dye. For autumn 2020, 80% of its collection will be made up of recycled wool. The Italian manufacturer has also developed Woolten, a sustainable fabric with a unique feel, made with a specific patented yarn that blends Manteco’s recycled wool with Lenzing’s Tencel.

Last but not least, Manteco also presented Project43, a fully integrated, zero waste circular service that allows customers to swap their fabric scraps for new smart fabrics designed by Manteco. A godsend for both the ready-to-wear industry and champions of sustainable fashion that intelligently aligns with contemporary values.
