The Slow Cosmetic movement explained

In 2012, Julien Kaibeck, an aromatherapist cosmetician known for his blog, published the book Adopt Slow Cosmetics. In it, he gathers his ideas for a more sensible and respectful cosmetics. At the time, the term "Slow Cosmetics" did not exist. The trend for home cosmetics was just beginning to emerge. The book was an immediate success in the press and with the public. Julien Kaibeck then worked with a few committed bloggers to develop a charter.  This charter explains the principles of Slow Cosmetics. As for Slow Food, the brand was born. A non-profit association also takes its first steps! The Slow Cosmetics Association, to protect and spread the Slow values in the world.

Faced with the public's recurring demand to know which brands are Slow and which are not, the volunteers of the Association imagined a label that would distinguish certain cosmetic brands. The Slow Cosmetics Label was thus created in 2013 to distinguish committed artisans. For clean formulas, but also for reasonable marketing, questioned for the first time publicly in the cosmetic sphere. To award the label, a volunteer jury composed of specialists in the deciphering of ingredients (INCI), but also the public, examine all the ranges of a brand (product by product) and all its claims. The jury examines its communication (promises, values, commitments...) but also the structure of the company (family shareholding, employees, etc.). The jury awards the label or not, as well as one, two or three stars depending on the brand's proximity to the Association's Charter.

The Slow Cosmetics movement now has thousands of voices that relay its core values. They are mainly located in French-speaking countries (France, Belgium, Quebec). However, more and more English- and Spanish-speaking brands are joining the Slow movement. The Association is therefore keen to reward these initiatives too! The objective is that consumers in all countries can find committed alternatives close to home.
