THE ART OF THE TRUNK BY LOUIS VUITTON

Maison Louis Vuitton invites you to discover its free exhibition “La Malle Courrier” at the heart of the Galerie-musée de la Maison d’Asnières.
Open on July 12 and 13, as well as on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from July 19 to 28, 2024, this exhibition immerses visitors in the world of this iconic creation.

For over a century, the Asnières mansion has been home to Louis Vuitton’s leather goods workshops, where tradition and innovation combine to create exceptional pieces.
Here, artisans perpetuate the House’s ancestral know-how, crafting handbags, rigid pieces and special orders from rare and precious materials.
While these expert hands are at work, the Galerie de la Maison de Famille Louis Vuitton occasionally welcomes visitors for exhibitions highlighting its exceptional heritage.

The “La Malle Courrier” exhibition, which takes its name from long-haul flights, celebrates this iconic piece created in 1858.
Adopted by modern explorers for its lightness and waterproofing, every detail of the trunk, from slats to metal corners, rivets to buckles, testifies to Louis Vuitton’s unrivalled craftsmanship.
This exhibition, extended to include trunks and sports-related objects in honor of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, allows visitors to rediscover the innovation and craftsmanship behind these creations.

Through stories of extraordinary journeys, the exhibition presents 21 Louis Vuitton trunks, dating from 1865 to 2024.
Among them, three trunks dedicated to sport stand out: a Pickleball trunk designed by Virgil Abloh, a trunk created in collaboration with the NBA and the famous Supreme trunk from the Homme FW 2017-2018 fashion show by Kim Jones.
Each of these trunks tells a unique story, combining functionality and elegance, hallmarks of the Louis Vuitton house.

Upstairs, a “cabinet of curiosities” reveals various facets of the Maison Louis Vuitton, from sport to architecture, bibliophilia, exploration, innovation, special orders, childhood, play, monogram canvas, and upcycling.
The installation also highlights the know-how of the leather goods workshops, offering visitors a glimpse into the creative processes that make each piece unique.

The House of Louis Vuitton, always at the forefront of innovation and design, continues to surprise and amaze with this exhibition.
“La Malle Courrier” is a celebration of the spirit of travel and the taste for adventure, dear to the House since its creation.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and craftsmanship of Louis Vuitton.
