Joyful invitations to take it easy, the spring/summer 2019 collections from these two young French labels – which we have been following from the outset – delivered a lively reinterpretation of summer style codes. A demonstration.
Jour/Né’s dynamic summer
Jour/Ne showed its new spring/summer collection on 24 September under the sweltering glass roof of the Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris. A new opus christened “Mary y Sol Café”, whose orange-toned shades and nonchalant lines instantly plunged us into the golden hours of Mediterranean holidays.
Inspired by the party-mad Ibiza of the 70s and its crazy nights, the brains behind the Parisian label – Léa, Lou and Jerry – offered colourful pieces with a retro bent, mixing punchy bikinis and a shirt dress with lemony prints, a Bohemian dress with tie-dye neo-motifs and destructured skirts with a host of tied fabrics.
The sunny, feminine models, sometimes walking the runway in heels and sometimes barefoot, seemed to have come straight from the beach to take a seat at a table on the terrace of this fictional café, the perfect holiday destination all summer long.
The tropics of the Victoria/Tomas collection
Skilfully blending Parisian urban codes and seaside gimmicks, the new spring/summer collection from the Victor Tomas duo is rooted in the latest heatwave that struck the City of Light. Utilitarian and masculine, cargo pockets feature on mini-skirts and revisited Safari jackets, while deckchair stripes and ruffles add a feminine touch to sportswear-inspired pieces, including “Soft Stretch” sports bras specially designed by the lingerie maker Chantelle.
Transgressive and avant-garde, denim is frayed, tracksuits become gentrified and accessories adapt to black leather straps juxtaposed with semi-precious stones. The leather goods designed by Nico Gani embrace a minimalism in vibrant colours, presenting bags in different sizes and shades. In short, the ideal summer wardrobe for a shining generation.
