Chiengora®, ETHICALLY SOURCED CANINE

Thousands of tons of dog hair are thrown away every year. The young German fashion brand Modus Intarsia, then developed and produced high quality yarns made from the undercoat of dogs. These yarns, called Chiengora® and Chiencell, are comparable to fine fibers such as cashmere, angora and mohair. The creators, Ann Catrin Schönrock and Franziska Uhl, sought to create an alternative that respects animal welfare. The idea is to recover the combed hair of dogs normally destined to be thrown in the trash, by valuing them in innovative material.

Modus Intarsia offers a range of products made with wool, carefully cleaned, soft and incredibly warm, but also dyed wool, ready to knit for our own projects. To combine aesthetics and durability, the two designers collaborate with a number of well-known designers and brands. Their raw material is collected with the help of a network of passionate breeders, owners and largely dog shows. An association has been created to recover the wool and donate every penny to animal protection. The items offered by Modus Intarsia can then be worn with a clear conscience.
